Full-Height LTO-10 Ethernet Tape Drive over 10GbE iSCSI

SymplyPRO XTF Ethernet puts a single full-height LTO tape drive on your network. Choose LTO-10 for the highest capacity and speed available: 30 TB native per standard cartridge, or 40 TB with LTO-10 Enterprise (Aramid) media, at up to 400 MB/s native. Or choose full-height LTO-9, which also runs at 400 MB/s and still reads and writes LTO-8 tapes.

Note that LTO-10 has no backward compatibility: an LTO-10 drive reads and writes LTO-10 media only. If you need to access older tapes, choose the LTO-9 configuration, or the SymplyPRO XTH Ethernet to mix half-height LTO generations in one enclosure.

Instead of tying the drive to a single workstation with SAS or Fibre Channel cabling, the XTF Ethernet connects to your existing network over iSCSI, so any computer—physical or virtual—can use it. Two 10GbE iSCSI data ports ship with both optical LC and copper RJ45 SFP modules, plus a separate GbE port for management, and a SAS Expansion port lets you attach additional SAS tape devices and access them over the same iSCSI connection.

How iSCSI access works: each computer connects (“logs in”) to the drive before using it. Windows and Linux include an iSCSI initiator; on macOS, the included ATTO Xtend SAN license provides it. Only one computer can be connected to the drive at a time—users can take turns, and connections can be set to reconnect automatically at startup.

Every purchase includes your choice of Hedge Canister or YoYotta archive software. The XTF Ethernet is also compatible with leading backup and archive applications, including Archiware P5, Veeam Backup & Replication, Commvault, and Cohesity NetBackup. SymplyATOM2, Symply’s free management software for macOS and Windows, handles drive diagnostics, verified firmware updates, and LTFS tape check and repair. AES-256 hardware encryption and LTO WORM media support help enforce retention policies, and ejected cartridges stay fully offline for an air-gapped copy.

  • Full-height performance — up to 400 MB/s native throughput with either LTO-9 or LTO-10.
  • Capacity — up to 30 TB native per LTO-10 cartridge (40 TB with LTO-10 Enterprise Aramid media), or 18 TB per LTO-9 cartridge.
  • Tape over your existing network — dual 10GbE iSCSI data ports connect the drive to your LAN — no dedicated SAS or Fibre Channel cabling, and no distance limits from a single workstation.
  • Fiber or copper out of the box — includes 2x optical LC and 2x copper RJ45 SFP modules, plus a separate GbE management port.
  • Physical and virtual hosts — any Mac, Windows, or Linux computer — or virtual machine — with an iSCSI initiator can connect; ATTO Xtend SAN for macOS is included.
  • One host at a time — the drive is used by one connected computer at a time; users can take turns, with automatic reconnection at startup.
  • SAS expansion — a SAS Expansion port (SFF-8644) lets you attach additional SAS tape devices and access them over iSCSI.
  • Choice of LTO generation — one full-height LTO-9 or LTO-10 drive.
  • Archive software included — choose Hedge Canister (macOS or Windows, perpetual license with one year of maintenance) or YoYotta (macOS, one-year subscription) at no extra cost.
  • SymplyATOM2 — free drive management software for macOS and Windows — diagnostics, verified firmware updates, LTFS check & repair, and full-tape write tests.
  • Compatible with leading software — Hedge Canister, YoYotta, Archiware P5, Veeam Backup & Replication, Acronis Cyber Protect, Commvault, Cohesity NetBackup, Arcserve, Retrospect, and Bacula.
  • Security & compliance built in — AES-256 hardware encryption and LTO WORM media support for non-erasable, non-rewritable retention.
  • Air-gapped by design — supports the 3-2-1-1-0 best practice with an offline copy for ransomware resilience.
  • All-metal enclosure — compact footprint with premium fan and integrated power supply for clean installs in offices or comms rooms.
  • Compliance & certifications — CE, UKCA, FCC Class A, RoHS.
  • Warranty — 3-year Advanced Replacement warranty, with an optional 2-year extension.
  • SymplyPRO XTF Ethernet desktop enclosure with 1x full-height LTO drive (LTO-9 or LTO-10, as ordered)
  • 1x LTO data cartridge
  • 1x LTO cleaning cartridge
  • 2x optical LC SFP modules and 2x copper RJ45 SFP modules
  • 1x 3m (9.8 ft) GbE Ethernet cable (management)
  • 1x 2m (6.5 ft) power cable
  • ATTO Xtend SAN macOS iSCSI initiator license (claim after purchase)
  • Hedge Canister or YoYotta license (claim within 90 days of purchase)
  • SymplyATOM2 management software (free download)
  • 3-year Advanced Replacement warranty

1 Recommended: The recommended operational/storage environmental envelope provides guidance on the environmental range for optimal performance and high reliability. This environmental range protects for 30-year archival storage.
2 Allowable: The allowable operational/storage environmental envelope defines the test limits to verify that the equipment will function within the environmental envelope. This environmental range is defined for operational storage of less than 6 months.
3 Shipping: When shipping media over extended environmental ranges, shipping times should be limited to minimize the duration of media being exposed to varying environmental conditions at lower and upper ranges. LTO tape media specifications provided by the LTO program at www.lto.org or specifications provided by the media manufacturer.

Note: Prolonged exposure to conditions outside the recommended range, especially approaching the extremes of the allowable operating environment, can result in decreased equipment reliability and longevity. An occasional short-term excursion into the allowable envelope is generally acceptable but may result in performance and reliability implications and higher power consumption.
