SymplyPRO Ethernet LTO appliances built on the existing SymplyPRO LTO family, empowering organizations with secure, shared access to up to 4 x LTO tape drives over a 10Gb Ethernet iSCSI network. The LTO tape drives are presented over the ethernet network to a host OS as an iSCSI target so they can be utilized by data protection and archive applications as if they were a SAS or Fibre Channel LTO drive, thus ensuring broad interoperability.
At the core of the SymplyPRO Ethernet appliances lies a potent ARM processor, enabling lightning-fast command processing and data traversal on distinct pathways. This results in maximum block transfer sizes to the LTO drives across the Ethernet network providing a performance up to 2000MB/Sec, while integrated data acceleration technology ensures optimal performance without straining host system computer resources. Resultantly the SymplyPRO Ethernet appliances provide a remarkable 20% performance increase over conventional SAS-connected LTO drives.
SymplyPRO Ethernet appliances are available either with integrated LTO drives in the SymplyPRO Ethernet LTO, or as the SymplyPRO Ethernet Bridge which is designed to connect to external standalone or automated LTO drives only.
The SymplyPRO Ethernet LTO models, support 1 or 2 Half-Height LTO-7, LTO-8, LTO-9, or LTO-9 Full-Height drives internally. A SAS Expansion Port allows the appliance to connect to a further 1 or 2 LTO standalone drives, or drives within a tape library for a powerful mix of standalone and automated drives providing maximum flexibility.
SymplyPRO Ethernet Bridge is a 1RU appliance that functions a performance iSCSI to SAS Bridge with dual 10Gb Ethernet interfaces to one SAS SFF-8466 port that supports up to 4 x SAS connected LTO drives either standalone or within a LTO library.

All dual drive rackmount designs from Symply feature Symply CableLess technology – a unique design that allows for the easy removal of LTO drives, making them highly serviceable and easy to upgrade. So, you can start with one LTO in your rackmount system and add an additional drive in a matter of seconds, without even having to power the system off. Likewise for servicing, if in the unlikely event of a drive failure, the failed drive can be removed without the need to power off the whole system, and only the failed drive need be returned for repair. Simple, as you might expect.
As a partner with IBM, SymplyPRO LTO products are fully compatible with software applications that support IBM LTO drive technology, and the architecture of the SymplyPRO Ethernet presents the LTO drives as an iSCSI target, so they can be used by the host OS in the same way as any SAS or Fibre Channel LTO drive.
All SymplyPRO Ethernet configurations feature Linear Tape File System (LTFS) support, for compatibility with a myriad of backup and archive applications, providing the corner stone of a 3-2-1-1-0 strategy to protect against Malware and Ransomware. Ensuring data is stored in a non-proprietary format that is easily to interchange and migrate. In some use cases LTFS can reduce the need for backup or archive software and allows users to easily interchange data using LTO cartridges or copying data to and from hard drives or SSDs.
