From Pixels to Permanence: Archiware and Symply Simplify Media Storage from Production to Archive

Amsterdam, September 8, 2026 — Archiware and Symply will showcase a practical, cost-efficient approach to protecting and archiving today’s rapidly growing media libraries at IBC Show 2026.

At booth 7.D13 (Archiware) and 7.C21 (Symply), visitors can discover how combining Symply storage and LTO solutions with Archiware P5 creates an integrated workflow spanning high-performance production storage, reliable data protection and economical long-term archive.

As media files continue to grow in resolution and volume, keeping everything permanently on high-performance disk or flash storage can quickly become expensive. While fast primary storage is essential for active projects, completed productions and infrequently accessed content rarely need to consume the same costly storage resources.

LTO tape offers a significantly lower cost per terabyte than primary disk and flash storage, making it an attractive option for moving completed projects and valuable media libraries away from expensive production storage while keeping content securely retained and accessible when required.

Together, Symply and Archiware P5 provide the building blocks for a tiered media storage strategy: fast disk and flash for active production, automated backup for data protection, and LTO for economical long-term retention.

Symply’s portfolio includes direct attached and shared storage, standalone LTO drives, scalable automated LTO libraries and cloud storage, while Archiware P5 provides the software layer to automate backup, synchronisation and archive workflows.

Making its debut at IBC 2026, the new Symply WORKSPACE NAS extends this integration further. Designed as a hyperconnected NAS platform for modern media environments, WORKSPACE NAS supports deployment of Archiware P5 in Docker directly on the appliance, simplifying installation and reducing the need for additional dedicated infrastructure.

This enables customers to create a streamlined disk-to-disk-to-tape data protection workflow within a single appliance, combining shared production with connected Symply LTO storage for secure, cost-effective long-term retention. The same architecture can support both standalone SymplyPRO LTO drives and scalable SymplyPRO XTL automated tape libraries, allowing the solution to grow with customer requirements.

P5 Archive adds powerful cataloguing and search capabilities, including thumbnails, proxy clips and customisable metadata, enabling archived content to remain visible and searchable even after it has been moved away from primary production storage.

The optional P5 Archive DLM (Data Lifecycle Management) module adds further flexibility, with rule-based tools to migrate, replicate, verify and tier archived data as requirements evolve. This helps organisations maintain additional archive copies, migrate data to newer generations of LTO and manage long-term retention policies.

For media teams facing rapidly expanding archives, this approach can translate into lower storage costs, greater scalability and a more resilient data protection strategy. LTO also provides an important physical air gap, helping protect archived data from ransomware and other online threats while reducing the energy and infrastructure demands associated with keeping large volumes of inactive data permanently online.

At IBC, Archiware and Symply will demonstrate how this combination can be deployed across studios, broadcasters, post-production facilities and other media environments, providing a flexible path from high-performance production storage through automated backup to searchable, scalable long-term archive.
